Steamboat Springs
Billy is NOT skiing today
So, after the fake going-to-see-Nate’s-sister, we actually did go to see Nate’s sister. She (Claire), her boyfriend Nick, his boss Bill and his wife Sullivan were out for a week in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Once again, we got to stay in a nice warm condo and not in the cold van. The next time we actually sleep in the van is going to be a rude surprise. Hanging out at the condo was great, and we all put in some quality time watching the Olympics. Curling ROCKS! Breakfast both days was (homemade) Egg McMuffins and Pancakes, which I much prefer over Quaker Oats. The first day Nate and I went out to Buffalo Pass for some backcountry sufferi…I mean skiing. We talked to a local who, after verifying we weren’t going to tell anyone, said head on out to Buffalo Pass for the best backcountry around. We ended up finding some great powder left from a storm the week before. In our foolishness, we even went up one slope twice to get some more turns in. That night, Bill and Nick (as head chefs) and all the rest but me (as sous-chefs) whipped up some tasty portobello veggie burgers with sprouts and beets and all kinds of fixin’s. And I don’t say that sarcastically, they were actually really good, I had two. The next day we all headed up on the mountain for some lift-serviced fun. Nate, Claire and I worked our way up to the very top (it took five different lifts!) and went down a few steep runs in the trees. The snow wasn’t great, but it was nice to jump on the alpine skis and go rip down a few runs without a single faceplant; the day was over all too soon. Nate and I jumped in the van for the trek to Salt Lake City; I had a wedding to attend in SoCal and Nate was going to hang out with his brother Chris.
